WinterFest 2009 transformed Surrey Central City Plaza into a Winter Wonderland. Highlights of the event included an outdoor skating rink, curling zone, and toboggan tower. Also new this year was the BCLC 2010 Winter Games dome which included interactive Biathlon. 

The evening featured an impressive concert line up including Thornley, Faber Drive and Eva Avila.

WinterFest invited the Surrey Food Bank to be onsite; they were able to raise $2000 and over 1000 pounds of food.

WinterFest was one of three free family events that the City of Surrey organizes each year. The next events will be Canada Day on July 1st, followed by Fusion Festival on July 18th and 19th 2009.

OLYMPIC MASCOTS COMING TO WINTERFEST

 

Come and meet the Olympic Mascots at WinterFest! Quatchi, Sumi, and Miga will be on site from 3:30-4:00pm and 4:30-5:00pm for a meet and greet. Look for them over at Surrey's 2010 Winter Olympics Zone.

THORNLEY AT THE ROXY

 

 

WinterFest's headliner, THORNLEY, kicks off the first FOX Uninvited Guest of 2009 in concert with the ROXY. Click HERE to win your way in. The FOX Uninvited guest happens on Friday, February 6th. You’ll be the first to hear new tracks from his 4th coming CD "TINY PICTURES" in stores February 10th.  The FOX Uninvited Guest – hear it Friday at 8pm only on 99.3 The FOX.

MISS 604 LIVE BLOGGING FROM WINTERFEST

 

 

Renowned Vancouver Blogger, Miss604.com, will be on-site at WinterFest all day and blogging about the event as the day unfolds.  If you can't make it out then this may be the second best thing.

 

We'll also have Johanna Ward from Shaw TV's the Express on site filming a segment for an upcoming show.

 

WinterFest will be the place to be!

Dr. Strangelove has just been added to play at WinterFest!  This wacky, fun loving, high-energy musical dance machine has been rocking the house for over a decade at the notoriously popular Vancouver hotspot, the Roxy. Their crazy antics, theme-based costumes and their uncanny ability to sound exactly like every band they cover has put them in high demand at some of the biggest events. Be prepared to party it up as they warm up the crowd just prior to the 2010 Countdown Ceremony!

The talent line up for WinterFest 2009 is exceptional! Headlining the event will be Toronto based rock band Thornley (604 Records) with lead singer Ian Thornley formally of Big Wreck. Tiny Pictures, their latest offering, is scheduled for release February 10th 2009. The first single from the album “Make Believe” has received national radio attention

The festival will also include a performance from Mission’s own Faber Drive (604 Records)  discovered by Chad Kroeger of Nickleback, and signed  to 604 Records, Faber Drive released their debut album, Seven Second Surgery, in 2007. The first single from the album was  “Second Chance” which reached 22 on the Canadian Hot 100 chart, followed by “Tongue Tied” and then “When I'm With You”. The fourth single released in late August, 2008 was “Sleepless Nights”.

Kicking off the evenings entertainment will be Canadian Idol winner Eva Avila (Sony/BMG), her debut album Somewhere Else was the launching pad for much success to follow. The album debuted # 6 on the Canadian Album Charts, garnered her three hit singles including the Double Platinum digital single  “Meant To Fly”, which quickly reached #1 on the Single Sales Charts and earned her a 2007 JUNO Nomination in the Category ‘New Artist of the Year’.

A celebration to mark the one-year countdown to the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics and to recognize Surrey’s official Olympic venue city distinction will also be held at this year’s WinterFest.

Also confirmed to perform, Bobs and Lolo, the Prestidigitainer, Katari Taiko Drummers, Fresh Groove, Peyton Rector, Chris Hamilton and Tainted Lovers.

WINTERFEST KICKS OFF SPIRIT OF BC

WinterFest will mark the one year countdown to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.  As Surrey is an official venue city, we will be hosting a Celebration Site during the Games where revelers can come down and experience the spirit with thousands of others. Each night will feature large video screens to watch all the gold medal events. The festival will also include live concerts and activities for all ages. Stay tuned for more information!
